Fort Bend County Fair & BBQ Cookoff

This will be It's the Pits cookers (ITPC) 16th year to compete at the Fort Bend County Fair BBQ Cookoff. As a team, we constantly strive to create the best tasting BBQ and culinary dishes this side of the Brazos! Heck, both sides of the Brazos for that matter. We have earned our share of hardware (trophies) at the fairgrounds, to include several culinary and showmanship grand champions. Live music, entertainment, and great food, are delivered at the highest level. We conduct a sponsor appreciation night on Friday night, allowing our team to celebrate those who have helped make our mission possible. Saturday night caps off two full days of competition cooking, and allows the team to ‘let our hair down’. Entrance to our tent/cook area at the cook-off is by invitation only. If you would like to join us, please click here. See you there!

Supporting Our Fair and Community

Much like the Fort Bend County Fair Association (FBCFA), ITPC is totally reliant on volunteers to administrate its good will to the deserving agricultural youth within Fort Bend County. Understanding the goals and objectives of the FBCFA, ITPC has sponsored many activities and events the FA has established to support our youth. Collectively, we have been both sponsors of the fair itself and sponsors of individual events (donating belt buckles, etc). Additionally, several ITPC Team members serve as volunteers to the fair on numerous comities; some have served on comities at the fair for more than 20 years.

FBCF Art Auction

To the surprise of some, ITPC has shown a more refined side of the team by showing its interest and support of the talented young artists at the FBCF. For the past several years, we have branched out at the FBCF and supported these talented youngsters purchasing nearly 20 of their original projects. ITPC in turn, places these items in our live and silent auctions each year at our annul charity fish fry to raise money for the following year.

Supporting Our Ag Youth

ITPC has continued its tradition of identifying and supporting students who have experiences hardships with their FBCF agricultural projects. These hard working young men and women spend countless hours raising their animals in addition to their numerous other school activities. Our goal is to find deserving students who work hard to attain success with their project, however due to no fault of their own, experience hardships that ultimately deny them the opportunity to compete. Once these individuals have been identified, especially those whom have additional economic considerations, ITPC purchase their animals and donate them back to sell again.

How did this all start you ask? ITPC started out in 2004. At its inception, a group of 8 individuals had a vision of doing something far greater than producing award winning BBQ. The team was inspired to do something for the youth at the fair, but what? One night Jack D decided they needed to find out if any youngsters needed help with their projects the following year leading up to the fair. Six students were identified: financial aid was provided, feed was delivered, pins and coupes were built and mended. A tradition was born.

ITPC has currently “purchased” and donated back nearly 200 animals from students at the fort bend county fair that made neither the main auction nor the freezer sale. Some of these students have come back to not only to win their weight classes the following year, some have gone so far as to win Reserve Grand Champion! This puts the student in the position to earn a nice cash award for their college education. At the end of the day, we have been able to make a difference for many young exhibitors.

So why do we feel so compassionate for this particular cause? Its simple, we have seen time and time again the caliber of individuals that comes through an agricultural program, rise up and develop into leaders within our community.

If you would like to help there are many ways you can get involved. You can support through a gift item that will be placed in our Annual Fish Fry and Fundraiser Auction, or through monetary donations. It's the Pits Cookers have partnered with Joy Lutheran Church and all of your donations are tax deductible as we are a 501C3 charity.
